FAQ
Does ZeroCyl cost anything?
Every feature is free. There is a static banner ad at the bottom of the screen. To remove it, you can subscribe to ZeroCyl Plus (NT$30 a month, auto-renewing, or a 30-day pass for NT$45). The subscription only removes ads; it doesn't unlock or restrict any features.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Just open zerocyl.app in your phone's browser or the Tesla in-car browser. We recommend choosing "Add to Home Screen" in your browser, so you can open it from your home screen like an app.
Which cars does it work with?
On a Tesla, open it in the touchscreen's browser and the sound plays through the car's speakers. For other EVs, open it on your phone and play it through the car stereo over Bluetooth.
What do I need to do the first time?
After tapping "Start engine sound" or "Start camera alerts", allow location access. On iPhone, Engine sound mode also needs "Motion & Orientation Access". With the phone in a mount and the car stationary, complete the direction calibration, then pull away gently: ZeroCyl learns which way the car is facing automatically.
The sound seems to lag behind?
Car Bluetooth usually adds 0.15 to 0.3 seconds of delay. Adjust "Bluetooth delay compensation" in Settings, and ZeroCyl will raise the revs early when it detects acceleration. The Tesla in-car browser plays sound directly, with almost no delay.
Will the speed jump around if I hold and shake the phone?
No. The speed on screen comes from GPS only. The accelerometer is used just to make the engine sound respond faster, and it is ignored for a moment whenever the phone is picked up or shaken.
Can I use it alongside navigation?
The phone web version needs ZeroCyl to stay on screen. If you switch to another app or lock the screen, the phone pauses location for the web page: the engine sound fades out and speed camera alerts pause, then resume when you return to ZeroCyl. To use it with navigation, we suggest two phones, or the Tesla in-car browser version.
Does it work offline?
After you've opened it once, it works without an internet connection. Engine sound, fixed speed cameras, average-speed zones and My alert points all keep working; only mobile speed trap reports need a connection.
Can I try it without driving?
Yes. Engine sound: choose "Simulator" on the home screen and use the throttle pedal (press lower to push harder) or the speed slider to hear the revs, gear changes and overrun pops. Speed alerts: switch to Speed cameras on the home screen, tap "Try the alerts (simulation)", and pick "Elevated-road camera", "Average-speed zone" or "Reported mobile speed trap" to hear the full voice alerts. Simulation sends no data.
Why don't the engines use car makers' names?
Out of respect for car makers' trademarks, ZeroCyl names every engine by style, such as "American V8" or "Inline-six". The synthesized sound only resembles the character of a type of engine; it is not a recording of any specific car.
Can I change settings while driving?
For safety, the settings button hides automatically above 10 km/h, and you can adjust settings once you've stopped. The driving screen keeps only single-tap actions, such as switching modes and reporting a mobile speed trap. Do not operate your phone while driving.
Will my subscription carry over to a new phone?
ZeroCyl doesn't need an account; your subscription is tied to the phone browser you paid with. After payment you'll see a recovery code. On your new phone, enter it under ZeroCyl Plus in Settings to transfer the subscription.
Does ZeroCyl collect my data?
ZeroCyl doesn't need an account and doesn't store your driving route. A location is sent only when you report a mobile speed trap, and only that one location. Anonymous usage statistics can be turned off in Settings. See the Privacy Policy for details.
