Download and install
There are three ways to use ZeroCyl: the Android app, iPhone, or the Tesla in-car browser. Pick the one that suits you.
ANDROID BETA
The Android app keeps running in the background: switch to navigation, play music or lock the screen, and the engine sound and speed camera alerts carry on, with the next camera shown in the notification. Until it is on Google Play, you can download the beta here.
Download the Android betaHow to install
- Open this page in Chrome on your Android phone and tap "Download the Android beta". If Chrome says this type of file can harm your device, tap "Download anyway".
- When the download finishes, tap the download notification, or open Files → Downloads and tap zerocyl.apk.
- The first time, the phone says it isn't allowed to install apps from this source: tap "Settings", turn on "Allow from this source", then go back.
- Tap "Install". If Google Play Protect shows a warning, tap "More details" → "Install anyway". This appears because the beta doesn't come from the Play Store; it won't once the app is listed there.
- Open ZeroCyl and tap "Start camera alerts". When asked for location, choose "While using the app". On Android 13 or later, also allow notifications so the drive notification can appear.
Recommended settings
- Battery optimization: some phones close apps in the background. Go to the phone's Settings → Apps → ZeroCyl → Battery and choose "Unrestricted".
- Start automatically in the car: in ZeroCyl's Settings, pick your car's Bluetooth under "Start automatically in the car", and a "Tap to start camera alerts" notification appears when it connects.
Updating and removing
When a new version is out, download it from this page and install it over the old one; your settings and My alert points are kept. Once the app is on Google Play, you can update from the store without uninstalling first. To remove it, long-press the ZeroCyl icon and choose "Uninstall".
The beta is signed by ZeroCyl (Qi Yi Crystal Ltd.). Only download it from zerocyl.app, and don't install copies passed on by others.
IPHONE
The iPhone app is on its way. It will open first as a public beta through Apple's TestFlight, and the link to join will be posted here. The app runs in the background and shows the next camera on the Lock Screen and in a corner of CarPlay.
For now, use the web app — added to your Home Screen, it works just like an app:
- Open zerocyl.app in Safari and tap "Use the web app now".
- Tap the Share button at the bottom (a square with an upward arrow), choose "Add to Home Screen", then tap "Add".
- From then on, open ZeroCyl from its Home Screen icon and it runs full screen like an app.
Good to know about the web app
- Keep ZeroCyl on screen. If you switch to a navigation app or lock the screen, the iPhone pauses the web page, so camera alerts and the engine sound pause too and resume when you come back.
- Camera alerts follow the iPhone's silent switch: with silent mode on you won't hear them, so turn it off. Engine sound mode plays either way.
TESLA
The browser on a Tesla touchscreen runs ZeroCyl directly, no phone needed: the sound plays through the car's speakers with almost no delay.
First-time setup (do this while parked)
- Tap the apps icon in the bar at the bottom of the touchscreen and open the Browser.
- Type zerocyl.app in the address bar. The car's browser opens ZeroCyl directly, skipping the intro page.
- Choose "Speed cameras" or "Engine sound" and tap "Start camera alerts" or "Start engine sound". When the browser asks for your location, choose "Allow".
- Bookmark ZeroCyl in the browser, so next time it's one tap away.
Tips
- Keep the browser open while you drive; closing the browser window stops the alerts and the engine sound.
- Adjust the volume with the steering-wheel scroll button or on the screen.
- Change settings only while parked, and keep your attention on the road.
- The in-car version is still being road-tested, and the browser can behave differently across models and software versions. If something doesn't work, tell us via "Feedback" in Settings.
